Professional Development Blog Post #1: Alumni Speaker
On August 21, Harps' graphic designer and University of Arkansas AECT Alumni, Meghan Paxton came to speak to my AGED 3943 Professional Development in Agricultural Communications class. It was really nice to see an Agricultural Education, Communications, and Technology alumni have careers that they are passionate about.
Meghan explained that things she has learned in her professional development class had really prepared her for her future. Throughout the class, she developed her resume and interview skills to land a really good internship.
Meghan explained that when you start your career, you may not exactly start out where you want to. Meghan had to go through a couple of jobs that weren't exactly her dream job, but she gained experience and knowledge of the professional world.
Now Meghan has a job she is excited and passionate about her job. She said to not get discouraged if you get rejected the first time around. She also mentioned that you have to understand what all it takes to earn the career you want. Meghan said that a Master's Degree wouldn't be worth the trouble, but sometimes getting your Master's would help you immensely.
